Sycamore

For the longest time I’ve been vaguely aware of some very large trees with huge white limbs.

I see them all over my neighborhood. They are especially noticeable in the winter when the bare branches look like waving arms, reaching to the sky. Now that I’m paying attention to these things, I wanted to know what they are called.

I discovered that there were six (!!!) books on tree identification floating around the house, which of course I had never opened. This should be easy. What a useless exercise. Lots of drawings of tree shapes and leaves. But hey, it’s winter, the trees are all bare around here.

I finally figured out what they were - sycamore trees.   How odd that I didn't already know that, since they are everywhere.  Every city has  Sycamore Street, too - makes me wonder what else I am missing.
